On desks, drinks and getting it done

When I wake up people take up mostly all of my time. I’m not singing, phone keep ringing so I make up a rhyme -Run D.M.C

“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” — Vincent Van Gogh

"I need to get a desk." - Kat Mills Martin

"I need multiple warm drinks." - Nora Logan

We’re back with one of our little chats between MAKING and Serenity Never! Today, we’re talking about a big one, one we’d all like to figure out and that many of us are eluded by: productivity as it relates to creativity. As per usual, Nora seems to meander off-topic multiple times, and Kat helps keep us on track.

Nora proposes the extremely original idea of working in a cafe, using the potential judgment of strangers looking at your screen to help keep you on task. Kat talks about finding pockets of time to work as a new mother, and how to approach work when you have limited time. We even bring in some big creative goals we have for the year towards the end of our chat. Productivity is complex and yet a lot of the time it’s really just about getting your ass in a seat (maybe at a desk, even?) and doing the work.

We explore the challenges of staying motivated, the importance of setting up a conducive work environment, and the impact of time constraints on creativity. The main thing we both agree on is how important it is to stay flexible with oneself and know that even when you need to maybe take a step back from something for a little while, it can provide a lot of insight when you return.
