This time we’re talking about writing shorts, screenwriting in general, and Kat’s upcoming classes, Screenwriting Basics on June 25, and Write Your Short Film from July 2-30 this summer.We talk about how Kat got started with screenwriting and her background in theatre, her experience of screening her short film Celeste in Spring for the first time in front of a live audience, and the lens she teaches from in her workshops. Kat emphasizes a non-hierarchical approach in her workshops, believing that stories naturally emerge from us when we make the space and time for them to do so. In her classes, she encourages writers to connect with their personal experiences — we all have a ton of crazy, compelling stories that are worth telling. And Nora just wants to say: TAKE THIS CLASS YOU WON’T REGRET! I love writing with Kat and have learned a great deal from her in our collaborative work.
A note on the recording: since Kat lives in Ojai, it’s mandatory for her to have excessive wind chimes going at all times. They’re a little loud on the recording, but they’re having the time of their life.
